Moultonborough
Moultonborough is a special town since it has the most shoreline waterfrontage in the Lakes Region. Most of the frontage is on Lake Winnipesaukee and on Squam lake. Moultonboro has an amazing infrastructure and just about town facility is new from the town hall, the school, the public safety facitly. Moultonborough also takes the cake when it comes to LOW taxes, some of the lowest in NH in which the tax rate hovers in the seven (7) range...unbelievable. There is a lot of waterfont, public beaches and boat ramps and the town also plows private ways and roads at their expense. This is one of the best run towns around and it's a very desirable place to reside due to it's convenient proximity to shopping, entertainment, Lakes, skiing and more.
Moultonborough was chartered in 1763 by the Governor Wentworth.
Moultonbor abuts Tuftonboro to the south, Sandwich, north and Center Harbor, West.
Moultonborough is the site of Castle in the Clouds built in 1913 and it is situated on Mt. Shaw. The estate is open for tourists in the summer and also caters weddings and special events. This grand estate has spectacular views of the Lake Winnipesaukee region as well as extensive hiking trails. The Old Country Store and Museum is alldgedly the oldest country store still in operation. It opened operations in that same building in 1781. Moultonboro also has a small airport.
